A poor teenager in the central province of Quang Binh has been given financial support for a new house and can continue studying after her story was shared on the Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper.

Representatives from Dantri and Tuyen Hoa District People's Committee visit Pham Thuy Ngan to transfer over VND195 million from donors sent to the newspaper's charity fund.

Representatives from Dantri and Tuyen Hoa District People's Committee visited Pham Thuy Ngan, 15, in Cao Quang Commune to transfer over VND195 million from donors sent to the newspaper's charity fund.

Ngan also received VND130 million from a firm in Vinh Phuc Province to build a new house for her.

The teenage girl said she was very moved to have received so much love and support from many people since her story was published on Dantri.

"Many people also have called to share their sympathy with me and sent money to support me," she said. "I want to send my sincere thanks for your love and valuable help. I will try to study well and become a helpful person."

Ngan is living with her mother who has mental problems. Her father left before she was born. Ngan and her ill mother have mostly depended on the local authorities, neighbours, and teachers for food, medicine and funds to study. Nguyen Anh Dung, an official in Cao Quang Commune, said that Ngan's mother, Pham Thi Huong, 51, receives a disability allowance, but that's only enough to cover her medical costs. "Huong's problems are worsening and she often wanders around," he said. "Meanwhile, Ngan is now at high school with higher study fees. Moreover, their house is too old and could collapse anytime. They really need support from the public."
